'Wonder Woman' Sequel: Patty Jenkins Officially Set to Return as Director

After weeks of negotiations with Warners Bros., director Patty Jenkins has closed a "precedent-setting" deal that will make her the highest-paid female filmmaker in history, Variety reports, meaning that she will officially return to direct, produce, and co-write Wonder Woman 2.

Back in July, the studio announced at San Diego Comic Con that a Wonder Woman sequel was in the works, with a slated release for December 13, 2019 and starring Gal Gadot. Jenkins, however, wasn't confirmed to return because she was still negotiating with the studio over her pay. At the time of Wonder Woman's release, Jenkins had only signed on to direct the first film and expected, the second time around, that she would be paid "substantially more" and "the same as a male director would receive," according to Deadline. Reasonable, no?

Although the exact number has not been disclosed, sources say the historic deal will put Jenkins in the $8 million range, but doesn't include the pay in accordance to box office grosses. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins will most likely receive $10 million total, comparable to what director Zack Snyder received for Man of Steel.

Jenkins is reportedly writing a script with Geoff Johns, president of DC Comics, and the sequel is rumored to be centered on the Cold War during the '80s.

Wonder Woman has already shattered box office expectations, topping over $800 million worldwide and becoming both the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman and the 11th highest-grossing superhero movie of all time.
